Web Illustration

Bob’s illustration system.

PRODUCT/ WEB ILLUSTRATION
CLIENT: BOB
ROLE: ILLUSTRATOR, VISUAL DESIGN, ART DIRECTOR
TOOLS: ILLUSTRATOR, PROCREATE, PHOTOSHOP

Description: I joined Bob with the challenge of evolving the Visual System. The first part was to enhance the brand guidelines to make them consistent throughout the company (you can see the case study here), and the second was to create an illustration library.

Why: We have chosen to create an illustration system because the First Bob needed as a company was to create a secure and friendly-looking. And because the company needed to:

  • Tell a story

  • Communicate values

  • Create our voice

  • Engage the user

  • Create a complete product feeling with the user, other stakeholders, and partners.

Solution: Create an Illustration system, Character creation, and color palette evolution.

 PROCESS

The process began with defining the type that we wanted for BOB, one that represented the brand's heart. I create different bodies and discuss them with the project's stakeholders.

Once we agree on the proportions, we move forward to more defined lines. Representing a brand in illustrations can be challenging, especially aligning with trends and making it last.

The next step was to create a color test to see if blue was the correct choice or not. We tested a more extended color palette, but we decided to use the color blue in the end.

When we defined all the styles, we started with the definition of the new website. I expressed three levels of depth:

  • Custom (the most illustrated with scenes and interaction).

  • Illustrated Icons (to reinforce ideas like benefits and small places).

  • Iconography (to be done). This set a frame to work in the scenes of the illustration system.

I created a library for the custom illustration and a module library to give the team freedom to illustrate a design.

I worked along with the marketing team in the lunch of the new material and let the people know that we were online again.
